Gutter Cleaning & Repair in Gainesville, FL

Gutters in Gainesville have a different calendar than gutters up north. Our live oaks and laurel oaks don't drop everything in the fall; they shed their old leaves in late winter and spring, right as the new growth comes in, and they follow that with a heavy dusting of catkins and yellow pollen that turns into a sludge the first time it rains. Pines drop straw all year, water oaks and sweetgums add leaves in late fall, and magnolia leaves are big enough to cap a downspout on their own. Then summer arrives with afternoon storms that can drop two or three inches of rain in an hour. A gutter that's half full of packed leaves can't keep up with that, so water spills over the front edge, splashes against the siding, soaks the fascia board and digs a trench in the sandy soil right along the foundation. Clogged gutters also stay wet, and wet wood at the roof edge is exactly what termites and rot are looking for.

We clean by hand and finish with water. Debris comes out of every run and goes into bags, not onto your flower beds, and then we flush each gutter and downspout to make sure water actually flows to the outlet. Clogged downspouts are cleared from the top and the bottom, including the elbows where pine straw tends to jam. While we're up there, we tighten or replace loose hangers, reseal leaking seams and end caps, adjust any runs that have lost their slope, and reattach downspouts that have pulled away. We look over the fascia and soffit along the way and show you photos of anything soft or chewed, and we can add downspout extensions or splash blocks so water leaves the house instead of pooling beside it. The driveway, walks and beds are cleaned up before we leave.

What this covers

  • Hand cleaning of all gutter runs
  • Downspout flushing and clog removal
  • Bagging and haul-away of leaves, straw and debris
  • Loose hanger and spike replacement
  • Seam, corner and end cap resealing
  • Re-sloping sagging or ponding runs
  • Downspout extensions and splash blocks
  • Gutter guard installation and cleaning
  • Photo report on fascia, soffit and roof edge
A note from around here: Homes under the big live oaks in the Duckpond, University Park and the Highlands fill their gutters every spring, while the pine-heavy lots around Millhopper, Hunters Crossing, Tioga and Haile Plantation collect straw and cones year-round and often need cleaning twice a year or more.

How a gutter cleaning & repair visit usually goes

Set Up Safely

We place ladders on stable footing with standoffs to protect the gutters, cover beds and walkways where needed, and look over the roof edge before we climb.

Clean by Hand

Leaves, straw, catkins and roof grit come out of every run and are bagged right away so nothing ends up in your yard or pool.

Flush and Test

Each gutter and downspout is flushed with water to confirm full flow, and any jams in the elbows or underground lines are cleared.

Repair and Report

We tighten hangers, reseal leaks, fix slope and secure downspouts, then share photos and notes on anything else we saw up top.

The real damage from neglected gutters in Gainesville shows up below them. When water spills over the same spot for a few summers, the fascia board behind the gutter softens, the soffit starts to stain and sag, and the ground along the foundation erodes into a trench that sends water toward the slab or under a wood-frame house on piers. Older homes near downtown and in the Southeast Historic District, with wood siding and raised floors, are especially sensitive to that. Downspouts that dump right at the corner of the house are another common problem, because our sandy soil washes away fast and the splash keeps the bottom of the wall damp, which invites mildew and termites. Directing water a few feet away with an extension, a splash block or a buried drain line is a small fix that solves a lot of headaches.

What shapes the price in Gainesville

The cost of gutter cleaning depends mostly on how much gutter you have, how high it is and how full it's gotten. A one-story ranch with easy ladder access and a normal leaf load is the simplest job. Two-story homes, steep lots, houses with screened pool enclosures or lanais in the way, and gutters packed solid after a season or two without cleaning take more time. Gutter guards add a step because they have to come off and go back on. Repairs such as resealing seams, adding hangers or re-sloping a run are priced on top of the cleaning, and they're cheaper to handle while we're already on the ladder. A regular schedule, cleaned before the gutters get heavy, usually costs less over time than an emergency cleaning after an overflow.

Neighbors often ask

When is the best time to clean gutters in Gainesville?

For most homes, the most important cleaning comes in late spring, after the oaks finish dropping leaves and catkins and before the summer storm season and hurricane season start in June. A second cleaning in December or January catches the fall leaves from sweetgums, maples and water oaks. Houses under heavy pines or big oaks may need a third pass. If you're not sure, a quick look after a hard rain tells the story: water pouring over the edge means it's time.

My house doesn't have gutters everywhere. Is that normal?

It's very common in Florida, especially on older block homes in Gainesville where gutters were only put over entries or never added at all. Without them, roof water drips straight off the eave, splashes up onto the walls and washes out sand along the foundation. We can add gutters over doors and walkways, extend the runs you already have, or improve the drainage under eaves with splash blocks so water moves away from the house.

Do gutter guards work with our oaks and pines?

They help, but they're not maintenance-free. Fine mesh guards keep out leaves and most pine straw, yet oak pollen and catkins can form a mat on top that sheds water over the edge, so the guards still need brushing off now and then. Screens and foam inserts tend to trap pine needles. We can install the type that fits your trees and roofline and keep cleaning it as part of a regular visit.

Can you fix a gutter that's pulling away from the house?

Usually, yes. Gutters pull away when the old spikes loosen, when the fascia board behind them has rotted, or when a run full of wet leaves gets too heavy. We clean the run, replace spikes with screw-in hangers spaced closer together, and check the fascia. If the wood behind the gutter is soft, we show you and can replace that section of fascia before rehanging the gutter, so it holds through the next summer of storms.

Should I have my gutters cleaned before a hurricane?

Yes, if you can schedule it ahead of time. Clean gutters move the heavy rain that tropical systems bring, and secure hangers keep the gutters from tearing loose and becoming flying debris. The best time is early in the season, in May or June, rather than the day before a storm, when everyone is calling at once. We also check that downspouts are attached and extensions point away from the house.
