TV Mounting in Gainesville, FL

In Gainesville, a lot of TV mounting happens on a schedule: the week before football season, the weekend before the first home game, and the days after students move into new apartments in August. But the walls themselves are what make each job different. Postwar ranches across town are built of concrete block, which takes different anchors and more drilling than wood studs. Older bungalows near downtown have plaster over wood lath that cracks easily if it's drilled the wrong way. Newer homes and townhomes have drywall over studs that may not land where you want the screen, and many have fireplaces where a TV is supposed to go above the mantel. Each calls for a different approach to hold a big screen safely for years.

We start by finding exactly what's behind the wall, then use a mount rated for your TV's size and weight and hardware made for that wall: lag bolts into wood studs, sleeve or wedge anchors into concrete block, and toggles only where they're truly suited. We set the height so the center of the screen sits close to eye level from your seat, level the mount, and hang the TV with the cables managed. If you'd like the wires hidden, we can run them inside the wall with a proper in-wall power kit, or use a paintable raceway on block and plaster walls where in-wall runs aren't practical. We also mount soundbars, set up streaming devices and leave the room clean.

What this covers

  • Fixed, tilting and full-motion wall mounts
  • Mounting into studs, concrete block and plaster
  • Above-fireplace mounting with height planning
  • In-wall cable concealment with power kits
  • Raceways for block and plaster walls
  • Soundbar and shelf mounting
  • Streaming device and basic setup
  • Removing old mounts and patching holes
  • Cleanup and packaging removal
A note from around here: Concrete-block ranches in Florida Park and the Highlands, plaster walls in the older homes around University Park and the Duckpond, and the new townhomes and apartments along Archer Road and in Tioga and Oakmont each need a different anchor and plan.

How a TV mounting visit usually goes

Plan the Spot

We talk through where you'll sit, sun glare from windows, and where power and cable come in, then mark the best height and position.

Find the Structure

We locate studs or block cores and check for wires and pipes behind the wall before drilling.

Mount and Hang

We install the mount level with the right anchors, attach the brackets to the TV and hang it securely, then test any tilt or swing.

Hide Cables and Clean Up

We conceal or neatly route the cables, connect devices and soundbars, and clean up packaging and dust.

Gainesville's sun plays a part in where a TV should go. Big west-facing windows and sliders onto a lanai or pool deck can wash out a screen in the late afternoon, which happens to be when a lot of games and evening shows are on in the fall. We look at window positions before we drill and may suggest a tilting or full-motion mount to angle the screen away from glare. In apartments and rentals near UF, we also keep an eye on lease rules; many complexes allow mounting but want holes patched at move-out, so we can come back and remove the mount and patch the wall when you leave. In older homes with plaster walls, we drill slowly with the right bit and use anchors that grip the lath and framing so the plaster doesn't crack around the mount.

What shapes the price in Gainesville

TV mounting cost depends on the wall, the size of the TV and how you want the cables handled. A medium TV on a fixed or tilting mount into drywall over studs is the simplest. Large TVs, full-motion arms, and mounting above fireplaces take more time and two people. Concrete block and plaster walls need more careful drilling and different hardware. Hiding cables in the wall with a power kit adds labor, and doing it in walls with fire blocking or insulation takes longer. Mounting several TVs, or a TV plus a soundbar and shelves, in one visit saves on the overall cost.

Neighbors often ask

Can you mount a TV on a concrete block wall?

Yes. Many Gainesville homes from the 1950s through the 1970s have block exterior walls and some block interior ones. We drill into the solid part of the block, not the hollow cores, with a hammer drill and use sleeve or wedge anchors rated for the load. Hiding cables inside a block wall is harder than in a stud wall, so we often use a slim paintable raceway or route cables down to an outlet nearby. We'll show you the options before we start.

Is it safe to mount a TV above my fireplace?

It can be, if the mantel area doesn't get too hot and the height still works for viewing. Many newer Gainesville homes have gas fireplaces with a mantel that sits fairly high, which can put the screen above comfortable eye level. We check heat at the mantel, recommend a tilting or pull-down mount when the TV must go high, and confirm the framing above the fireplace can carry it.

I'm renting near campus. Can I mount a TV?

Check your lease first; many complexes allow it if holes are patched at move-out, and some want management notified. If it's allowed, we mount the TV properly and, when you move out, can return to take down the mount, patch and touch up the wall so you're in good shape for your deposit.

Can you hide the wires if there's no outlet behind the TV?

Usually, yes. In stud walls, we install an in-wall power kit, which brings power and low-voltage cables behind the TV safely without running a regular power cord inside the wall. In block or plaster walls where that isn't practical, we use a slim paintable raceway that blends in, routed down to the nearest outlet.
